'BJP conspiracy to defame Bengal': Abhishek Banerjee on Sandeshkhali row
In Bengal, particularly in Kolkata, residents are grappling with intense heatwave conditions, as temperatures soar well above average levels. According to a statement released by the Meteorological Department's regional headquarters in Alipore on Friday, Kolkata witnessed a minimum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, marking a significant deviation of five degrees from the norm. This alarming rise in temperature sets a record as the highest ever recorded in the city. Additionally, the minimum temperature remained at a scorching 28.8 degrees Celsius, three degrees above the usual mark.
The situation has prompted the issuance of heatwave warnings for various parts of the state, including Kolkata's Arrest, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, and Bankura. Moreover, districts in North Bengal, such as Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong, are also experiencing heightened heat stress. This persistent weather pattern has persisted throughout the week, raising concerns for public health and safety.
